Purpose

Function to determine the sign of a numeric value


Syntax

SIGN(<expN>)

Description

The SIGN() function is used to determine the sign of a numeric value. The SIGN() function will return the following values:


<expN> Value Return Value
Positive 1
Negative -1
Zero 0


Example

? sign(9876.78)
         1
? sign(-87.9)
        -1
? sign(0)
         0
